Suzuki Gladius wins Japanese Good Design Award

Suzuki Gladius wins Japanese Good Design Award

Suzuki’s latest middleweight has gained one of the most prestigious awards in its home market, taking the honours in the motorcycle category of the famous ‘Good Design Awards’.

Launched in the spring of 2009, the Gladius 650 replaced the hugely popular SV650, going on to score highly with both press and customers. Featuring a trellis-styled steel frame, curved bodywork and ancillaries along with bold colour options, the Gladius brought unique style to the Japanese naked middleweight segment.

But it’s more than just aesthetics that have made the Gladius an instant hit. With a chassis and bodywork designed to be slender, a low seat-height of just 785mm and strong attention to detail, the Gladius 650 is one entry-level machine that delivers both form and function.

Mathijn Nelis special Suzuki TL1000S

big_big_mathijnnelisnelis1000rcustomtl1000r07

The Suzuki TL1000S didn’t have a lot of success on the European motorcycle market, but among fans and in other markets it is certainly appreciated for its V2 Hamamatsu engine. While the TL1000S is no longer available on the sales books, it gets plenty of attention in the tuning market, and the motor lives on in other bikes including in the naked and sports segments.

This particular TL1000S special comes from Mathijn Nelis and involves some hard tuning that has completed revamped the bike. The twin beam chassis is gone, making way for a trellis frame with red tubes straight out of the school of Italian motorcycle design, and the rest of the bike and its fairing is inspired by other models such as the Ducati Monster and GSX-R.

Overall, the Mathijn Nelis TL1000S has a European look up the same alley as the Bimota Delirio and the Ducati Streetfighter. The team has certainly made an effort and the work done on the chassis, fork, pedals and handlebar is truly impressive. Modified engine components include a new exhaust, otherwise the mechanical components remain as they are, with all of the original horse power and torque in tact.
